The History of Synema.......Progressive Rock

Synema is described by it's members as a cross between Symphonic, Electronic and Neo Prog.

Synemas' influences are many but some of our particular favorites are, Yes, Tangerine Dream, Renaissance, Gentle Giant.Tull, Pink Floyd,and Rush

The name "Synema" originates from the combination of the words synthetic symphonic and cinema

There are two CDs available from Synema: Equal Reaction, and Evolution For A Party Of One

Synema began years ago as "Xitout", a progressive rock trio. The band concentrated on playing original music. The original members of the band were as follows:

Shawn Birch: Bass Guitar,

Scott Gunderson: Drums,

Steve Nellessen: Guitar and Voice.

The band played throughout the summer of 1991, until the drummer, left the band. In the spring of 1992 percussionist, Mike Adkins joined. The band went on an intensive music writing spree under the name Exit. Mike directed the groups sound into a more synthetic and intricate style. In the winter of 1992 the group decided to take on the bar scene and ended up playing more covers in their shows than any respectable progressive rock band would like to admit. Exit played the bar scene until the strain of cover tunes, began to rock the stability of the band. In late 1995, the band breathed new life into itself with an overhaul and a name change to Cinema. The band continued writing and practicing until the spring of 1996, when it was decided that the band should go on hiatus indefinitely.

Steve and Mike rejoined in the winter of 1998 to record and complete an album under the name of Synema. The C.D. Equal Reaction was the stepping stone for Evolution For A Party Of One.

Member Profile: Steve Nellessen

Position: Guitars, Synths, Vocals

Duties: Play Guitar, Sing,

write lyrics, and

compose Music.

Experience: Began music at the typical

young age of 10. The range

of instruments over the

years have been viola,

trumpet, guitar and

keyboard. Member of several

bands throughout the past.

Best known for: Spilling anything liquid.

Member Profile: Mike Adkins

Position Electronic Percussion, Synths

Vocals

Duties: Drum, play synths, and sing.

Compose music and engineer.

Experience: Been banging things since he

could crawl. History includes

drumming in a heavy rock band

to progressive dream electronic

projects. Knows Midi like the

back of his hand. Also plays a

bit of guitar.
